The Mission of Fremont Christian School:
Christ-
focused learning for a life of service
STATEMENT
OF PURPOSE
1.
assist Christian
parents in their covenantal responsibility of training their children to be
faithful followers of Christ.
2.
Help students grasp, in the course of their studies, that
all things were made by Christ and for Christ and are held together by Christ
(Colossians 1:16-17)
3.
Help prepare children to use their God-given abilities in
the diverse callings and institutions to which God will lead them as servants of
Christ.
4.
Show students that the knowledge of Christ shapes one’s
worldview and is often contrary to a worldview that excludes Christ.
5.
Provide students an appropriate place and social context,
which promotes education in the academic disciplines, development of physical
and artistic skills, and healthy personal interaction.
6.
Teach students an understanding of the Christian
Scriptures, which is consistent with the creeds and confessions of the Reformed
tradition.
7.
Impress on students through expectation and example the
importance of pursuing excellence in all things for the glory of Christ.
EDUCATIONAL
PHILOSOPHY
I The
Bible, God’s Holy and Inspired Word, Is Our Foundation
A. Christian Education is based on
the Bible
The
Bible is the infallible, written revelation of God giving us true knowledge
concerning Him, His Creation, and our position and task in the world.
From this written revelation, we learn who God is. God created the
universe (Gen. 1 and 2). He made man in His own image to be the caretaker of His
Creation (Gen. 1: 26, 27). Man fell from his high position by disobedience to
God, thereby incurring God’s wrath (Gen. 3) which He removed through
Christ’s death on the cross. Through
that sacrificial death, God redeemed His people and is restoring them into His
image. Through His redeemed people
God is building His kingdom. He ultimately will renew His entire creation.
The Bible reveals God’s promises to us and tells us that God calls His
people to faith in Him. Faith is established and caused to grow in the human
heart by the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Spirit is the source of all enlightenment. Only
the Holy Spirit can guide the teacher and the student to view all knowledge
through the spectacles of Scripture. Students then can, by faith, perceive the
truth that proceeds from the testimony that God is the creator of heaven and
earth and that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of all who repent of their
sins and believe in Him as their Lord and Savior.
B. Christian Education is a response of obedience
to God’s Word for our children’s education
Fremont
Christian School was established in response to the teaching of Scripture that
all life must be lived in loving obedience to the Lord’s will and that parents
and the Christian community have the responsibility to educate their children in
the love, wisdom, knowledge, and righteousness of their sovereign God.
Christian schools seek to assist Christian parents to accomplish the task
which Moses assigned to the covenant people of Israel when he said, “And
these words I command you this day shall be upon your heart, and you shall teach
them diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in
your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you
rise.” (Deut. 6: 6-7).
C.
Christian
Education provides a blueprint for living
The
Bible motivates and directs us in the development of education for Christian
living and Christian service both in the Christian and at-large community.
In harmony with the Bible and the great creeds of the Reformation,
Christian instruction seeks to achieve the goal expressed in the Westminster
Confession – that our students may learn “to know God and enjoy Him
forever,” subjecting their lives and all the activities to His will for His
glory.
D. Christian
Education recognizes that all truth is God’s truth
Whatever
true knowledge we have has been revealed to us by God.
He has made Himself known to us through His Son, revealed in the Bible as
“God in the flesh,” “The Way, the Truth, and Life.”
God also displays His glory in the heavens and the earth which He has
created. “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His
handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
This idea is also expressed in Romans 1:20.
Our response to this magnificent revelation is an eager desire to learn
and to serve. God wants us to be
ambassadors to the world in His name and to be stewards of His creation
II Christian
Education Develops a Christian Worldview
A.
Biblical knowledge discovers Christ as Lord in all and of all
Christian education seeks to explore every avenue of learning so
students may be able to discharge God’s requirements faithfully.
We study history in the light of the Scriptures to discern how God’s
plan unfolds in the course of human events and to find our own place in that
plan. We cultivate the gift of
language so we can give clear and powerful expression to what God has taught us
both in Scripture and in the works of human culture.
In mathematics and in the sciences, we learn the structure of God’s
universe and how we can use this knowledge in His service.
God has given to man, His highest creation, rich endowments of mind and
spirit. He has given us the joyful commission to roam throughout His universe
discovering His greatness. He has allowed man through his work, to unfold the
potential of the universe, to create works of beauty in the arts, to appreciate
what is noble, and to develop skills – doing all these things in a spirit of
wonder and gratitude in the presence of God.
B.
We learn and live to love and
serve God and our neighbor and to restore God’s good creation
Christian
education views each student as an image bearer of God called to be His servant
and called to serve the world in His name. Christian teachers are charged with
the responsibility to give close attention to the needs and talents of
individual students to encourage them to become loving and obedient disciples of
the Lord Jesus Christ. Students are challenged to develop their talents for the
honor of God and the service of others in all areas of life.
Thus, the Christian school broadens its influence within the communities
in which the students live. In
obedience to our Lord, the Christian school aims to implant in the hearts of its
students that the
Kingdom
of
God
is the primary pursuit of all of our
learning and striving.
