Día de Los Reyes celebración

All last week, First Grade Spanish Immersion students learned about the traditional ways Hispanic countries celebrate Christmas by celebrating Día de Los Reyes (Three Kings Day.) Día de Los Reyes is traditionally celebrated on January 6th. On this day, kids decorate a shoe box in which they put grass for the camels (horses according to some kids) that the three kings rode. As a thank-you, they leave gifts for the children. Thursday, we did our own version of decorating a bag and collecting grass! The kids were very excited to find out if the three kings would stop by our classroom on Thursday night!

The kids were so impressed by the “mess” of grass they found in the classroom Friday morning!  The 3 kings visited us!!!

Maestra Lupe taught us about “La Rosca de Reyes”. A sweet Mexican Bread that is eaten during Three Kings Day celebrations. The tradition goes that whoever finds the baby Jesus (a plastic toy hidden inside one of the pieces of bread) will bring a snack for their friends in the month of February! Two students found the baby Jesus! What a fun

We made crowns, decorated cookies and played with our toys!
