Our 8th-grade students continue to live out what it means to be a Servant Worker and Community Builder. Every other Friday, a group of 4 students volunteer for an hour at The Nest Upscale Resale Shop. Today we celebrate our first trip to the store with you! The students were busy cleaning, vacuuming, sorting, and organizing racks. A favorite area was restocking stuff animals and the gentlemen in the group were able to test many donated electronic items. They found a few real treasures… a cassette tape and an old Atari! They also assembled storage racks, a stereo system, and a groovy lava lamp! We live in Christ's kingdom - we live among "our neighbors." How can we love our neighbor as we love ourselves? How can we help our neighbors? The Nest Resale Shop loves and supports FCS and it is a great fit for our students to practice service. As well as, a place for our parents to volunteer. I pray that this will be felt among our students and FCS families, and even through our greater Fremont community. May God use us to shine God's light on the communities around us! If you would like to join us volunteering please call/email Heidie Snyder (hsnyder@fremontchristina.org) 924-2740. Store Hours: Tue-Fri 10-5pm, Sat 10-3pm

Mr. DeHaan is reading Counting by 7's by: Holly Goldberg Sloan, with his 6th-grade students. He choose to read this book with his students because it invites the reader to consider how one person can impact the lives of many. The book also explores the idea of community and how people can learn from one another. These themes obviously carry over into what it means to be part of an authentic Christian community. What happens when people try to understand each other, instead of simply noticing differences? What does it mean to love our neighbors? Can something positive come from a negative experience? How are our individual stories part of God's story? All of these ideas and more are addressed as we read this book!

It was a great first week back from Christmas break! In Outdoor Education this week, the kindergartners made ice ornaments. They collected nature and arranged it in a pie tin. They added water to their project and waited a few days for them to freeze. With their 5th-grade buddies, they had a winter walk and hung the ice ornaments on the trees!

Friday Family Groups! Today our 8th grader leaders spent time teaching our younger students about truth seeking and use good judgment when tempted by Idols and false gods. Psalms 119:66 “Teach me good judgement and knowledge, for I believe in your ways. Before, I was going the wrong way, but now I obey your Word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your ways.”

What a great day! Today I saw a first grader teaching her classmates a dance, 2nd graders harvesting lettuce and dill, 5th graders talking about life after death and being a witness to non believers, 6th graders searching for baby Jesus inside a Mexican pastry, 3rd graders cleaning up their classroom after being visited by "camels" in the night, Preschoolers engaged in play based learning with their new ice cream shop, 3rd graders playing hockey (I might have joined in!), the list goes on and on! -Mr. Donkersloot

Middle School Chapel discussed the book of Ecclesiastes today. They made lists of what they desire and compared it to what God desires for them. Secondly, they discussed the many platforms for social media, and how it can effect our moods. They reviewed the steady rise in depression and anxiety rates since 2000. They discussed what God would want them to follow, desire, and admire.

The 1st grade Spanish Immersion students were so excited to show our local healthcare workers how much we appreciate what they do! We made cards in Spanish and our 6 grade buddies help us translate in to English so that the cards would have both languages. The parents donated goodies and we put together gift baskets. We were blessed with so many items by parents, that we were able to make 5 huge baskets! God is good!! More importantly, we are praying in our class for our healthcare workers. For their health, wisdom and strength!!
